Auteuil was a village before it was a neighbourhood: absorbed into Paris in 1860, it kept the layout. Narrow streets, low houses, private lanes closed off by a gate — hameau Boileau, villa de la Réunion, villa Montmorency. A Paris house is not a flat

The difference is bigger than people expect. In a flat, everything is constrained: a panel by the front door, conduit following fixed routes, a co-ownership to consult the moment you step outside your own walls. In an Auteuil house, you get freedom back — and a different set of problems.

Freedom, because there's usually a loft, a basement or a crawl space to run cable through. Rewiring a floor without touching the walls becomes possible, which changes the quote entirely.

Different problems, because a house accumulates eras. The panel is often in the basement or a garage, far from the living space, with spurs added over decades. You find circuits heading off to an outbuilding, a garden shed, a gate — feeds nobody ever recorded. The first thing we do in a house is rebuild the map of what exists: without it, quoting is guesswork.

Outdoors: what flats never have

A house usually means a garden or courtyard, and outdoor electrics follow their own rules. Equipment has to be weatherproof, protected against splashing, and fed from dedicated circuits with their own 30 mA residual-current device.

In practice we regularly work on path and façade lighting, feeds to a gate or an entryphone, and enclosures whose seals have aged. The weak point is nearly always the same: the crossing between inside and outside, where damp creeps along the conduit and eventually trips the RCD. It's a classic seasonal fault that reappears with the first autumn rain.

Private lanes: a case of their own

Auteuil's villas and hamlets are private lanes, run by residents' associations. Lane lighting, the gate supply and shared enclosures are therefore collective matters, not the business of any single house.

In practice that means work on those installations needs the association's agreement, and a quote has to be presentable to several owners at once. We price this line by line, clearly separating what belongs to the shared network from what belongs to you. It takes longer to prepare, but it avoids awkward conversations when the bill is split.

Repairs and renovation, as everywhere

Beyond those specifics, most of our Auteuil work is ordinary: a breaker that keeps tripping, a dead socket, a water heater that has stopped heating, a panel to rework. In older stock, an electrical panel replacement is often the useful first step before considering full rewiring.
