Electrical renovation grants: what you're really entitled to

It's one of the first questions we're asked: "what grants are there to redo my electrics?" And the honest answer sometimes surprises — purely electrical renovation isn't the most subsidised item, because public schemes mainly target energy savings (insulation, heating). But there are real levers, and it's better to know them before you start. For the method and pricing, start with our electrical renovation page.

The real everyday lever: reduced VAT

This is the most concrete help for an electrical renovation, and the simplest: on a home completed more than two years ago, improvement works benefit from 10% VAT instead of 20%. It applies directly on our quotes — you have nothing to do, we pass the reduced rate on to labour and supplied materials.

When the works improve the home's energy performance (for example a more efficient electric heating system as part of a renovation), a 5.5% VAT rate can even apply to the relevant part. We tell you the correct rate depending on the nature of the project.

Energy-renovation grants: when electrics are attached

The major national schemes — MaPrimeRénov', energy-saving certificates (CEE), the eco-PTZ loan — don't fund "redoing the electrics" as such. They fund energy measures. Electrics can benefit indirectly when they're part of a broader project:

• an efficient electric heating system (regulated radiators, heat pump) can qualify for MaPrimeRénov' or a CEE bonus;
• efficient ventilation (dual-flow mechanical ventilation) falls under the same framework;
• the eco-PTZ funds, at zero interest, a package of energy-renovation works in which the associated electrical work can be included.

In other words: redoing a panel alone, no; redoing the electrics within a global energy renovation, often yes, on the energy part.

What isn't subsidised (and it's worth knowing)

To be clear: bringing a dated panel up to code, adding circuits, swapping sockets or making an installation safe aren't eligible for MaPrimeRénov'. They're safety and comfort works, not energy savings — so the 10% VAT remains your main advantage. Better to know it before building a budget on grants that won't come.

Local schemes

Beyond the national level, some authorities offer their own help. In Paris and the Île-de-France region, the City and the Region regularly run schemes for home renovation, sometimes combinable with national grants. They change from year to year, so the reflex is to check the schemes in force at the time of your project.
